OnePlus 5 is finally get the popular Face Unlock feature available only the latest flagship from OnePlus, OnePlus 5T. Face Unlock is OnePlus’ feature, similar to Apple’s Face ID, that enables users to quickly have a look at their smartphone to unlock it.
For the disappointed OnePlus 5 users, joy is just around this Christmas, as the co-founder and CEO of OnePlus, Carl Pei, has confirmed that Face Unlock will be available as a feature on OnePlus 5 very soon. This is purely a software driven feature and does not necessarily require hardware support as needed in Apple’s Face ID, which uses depth mapping and projection.
Due to popular demand, Face Unlock is coming for the OnePlus 5. Thanks for the feedback, and merry Christmas! 🎅🎄🎁

Face Unlock is purely an additional security feature. OnePlus 5T also has a fingerprint reader at the back, as opposed to placement on the front for OnePlus 5.
There is no timeline on when Face Unlock will be available for OnePlus 5, but there is a good chance this will be available very soon. In the meantime, OnePlus 5 is starting to receive Android Oreo update in various countries.
