Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited has silently launched JioTV and JioCinema on the desktop, which allows Jio users to login with their Jio mobile number or Jio ID to stream content. JioTV allows users to stream 500+ channels including 60+ HD channels spread across 10 genres and 15 languages, while JioCinema offers 1 lakh+ hours of exciting content: movies, TV Shows, music videos, clips and trailers.
Until the launch on the desktop, JioTV and JioCinema have been available on the Android and iOS platforms. The launch on the desktop brings the same streaming capabilities for all Jio users on the computer.
This comes at a time when JioTV has crossed over 100 million subscribers and Hotstar is bringing down prices with exclusive deals for users. Hotstar is likely India’s largest streaming service, with Netflix India and Amazon Prime Videos closely trailing behind. Netflix has held its ground strong with premium services, refusing to introduce promotional prices in a price-sensitive Indian market, while Amazon Prime recently completed its promotional pricing of Rs 499 per year and has set the new pricing to Rs 999 per year.
Similar competitions include Hooq and Sun NXT. Hooq is reportedly offering 30 days free subscription with Paytm wallet and has a pricing tier of Rs 89 per month thereafter. Sun NXT is Sun TV network’s streaming service at affordable pricing and has support for Android and iOS too.
Both JioTV and JioCinema are available for free on the desktop, without any additional charges. This could change at any time in the future though, given the recent price increase in the Jio plans.
This is Jio’s first step towards launching JioTV and JioCinema for larger screens, and it’s anticipated that Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited launches support for Google Chromecast and Fire TV Stick in the coming days.
